The stage is set for regicidal rivalries, devious dramatics, and plotting playwrights, as The Three Inch Fools present The Most Perilous Comedie of Elizabeth I at Herstmonceux Castle on Sat 23 Aug. This innovative outdoor theatre production sees a royal court beset by misunderstandings and a script that…let’s just say…needs some work, this production promises to be largely historical, always hysterical.
Elizabethan theatre is flourishing. But will a brand-new Tudor musical romp, in which Good Queen Bess takes to the stage herself, be the making of this heroine or spell the beginning of her downfall?
As the old saying goes…thy show must go-eth on!
Join these pioneering performers in the beautiful surrondins of the Herstmonceaux Castle grounds. Bring your own cushions and camping-chairs, and be prepared for the weather - the performance will continue come rain come shine.
The Three Inch Fools are an innovative touring theatre company, acclaimed for their fast-paced and musically driven approach to theatre. They have built a reputation for staging bold and vibrant productions - a fast-paced, musically-driven style, using all sorts of different instruments, plenty of multi-roling and many a quick costume change along the way.
Each production features a completely original musical soundtrack, created in collaboration with composer Stephen Hyde. These move between folk and world music, then into classical, rock, pop and opera - and everywhere in between!
All performances take place in the open-air. With people spending more and more time indoors, the company have made it their mission to reclaim the great outdoors as a cultural meeting ground for families and communities, at some of Britain’s best-loved landmarks.
Their productions combine the best of old and new: the spirit and methods of a traditional touring troupe, with a contemporary vitality that strives to make their work accessible to an audience of all ages, so that everyone can enjoy and engage with theatre.
The winter and spring months are spent at the National Trust’s Elizabethan Eastbury Manor House in Barking, where the company rehearses and works with the local community. Then, through the summer, they embark on a five-month tour of the country.
This year marks the company’s 10th anniversary, and they are touring this brand-new comedy and a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
