In partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, a brand-new service will connect Hangleton to Falmer via Hove Station, Brighton Station, Hove Polyclinic, Lewes Road and the Amex Stadium next month.
Brighton & Hove Buses’ new 3X route will launch on Sun 28 Sept and will offer faster travel across the city. Much like its pink predecessor, the 1X that launched last summer, passengers will be able to spot a 3X bus stop instantly by the bright blue bus stop poles that will appear across the city. There are only 23 stops along the whole route in order to provide a new and convenient cross-city express route.
The new express route will be the fastest way to get from Hangleton to Brighton or Hove train stations and will provide a new express connection for students living and studying at Falmer. The 3X will also provide additional links for several schools and colleges, running daily from early to late, as frequently as every 15 minutes. For commuters, buses have been timed to connect at Hove in line with London Victoria trains in the Hangleton direction.
The service will be operated by brand new double deck buses fitted with tables with wireless charging, USB charging points at every seat, free WiFi, comfy seating, two wheelchair bays and dementia friendly flooring.
Nick Hill, Commercial Director at Brighton & Hove Buses, said: “We’re very excited to introduce the 3X to Brighton & Hove this summer. The route has been designed in response to passenger requests for faster buses on our network, and this new express service will offer Brighton & Hove residents more convenience with quicker journeys and new connections.
Councillor Trevor Muten, Brighton & Hove City Council’s Cabinet member for Transport and City Infrastructure, said “It is a real pleasure to work with Brighton & Hove Buses to deliver this new express service across the city. This new route offers a direct, frequent, and fast service for commuters in Hangleton to access train services from Hove and Brighton, for secondary school pupils along the route and for better access to and from Sussex and Brighton Universities in Falmer and Moulsecoomb. With more accessible new low-emission buses, the 3X offers a sustainable cleaner option to connect, reduce journey times and make do without a car.”
Brighton & Hove Buses currently operate 280 buses across a network of 73 routes with 2,000 bus stops, serving the urban area of Brighton and Hove and connecting the city to Eastbourne, Lewes and Tunbridge Wells. Metrobus currently operate 175 buses across 50 routes through Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Between the two companies, our passengers made 64 million passenger journeys last year which, in the city of Brighton & Hove specifically, is more bus journeys per head of the population than any other city in the UK outside of London.
